What inspired you to become a wedding and event stylist?

I have always loved creating make believe spaces; my three siblings and I would spend hours as kids creating elaborate play-worlds. Designing and bringing wedding and event spaces to life carries the same magic and excitement for me today, with my clients acting as co-creators. I love tossing around ideas until something sparks genuine excitement.

What types of weddings do you specialize in?

I’m most often designing for events with 100-250 guests, but smaller groups in more intimate spaces can achieve amazing drama – even a private bridal space for just the bride and groom to escape to and feel like royalty! If physical space, and the ambiance it creates, are important to you then my services can make all the difference. Especially if the venue options are limited, my design tools can transform a less than ideal space into an enchanted realm. When I’m done venue staff often comment “oh my, I’ve never seen this room look so beautiful!”

What is your favorite aspect of working in the wedding industry?

I love how creative and personal each job is. Weddings are one moment in our culture when ordinary, seemingly non-creative types have permission to dream, and for a day, step into their own unique, magical world.

What do you think makes Port Townsend and the Olympic Peninsula such a special place to say "I do"?

This area has an innate, epic natural beauty (thus so many artists are drawn here). There is an appreciation and respect for environmental and historical beauty in the community here that results in a unique rural and rustic charm, with a dash of wild adventure! Also, practically speaking, it is surprisingly simple to get here, but tucked away enough to have lower going rates on almost everything compared to the city. Which means even a modest budget wedding can afford “frills” like spectacular event design.

What's your best tip for couples who want to DIY their wedding decor?

As all the “Pinterest-fails” out there attest to: always test out how doable your vision is. If it doesn’t turn out the first time make adjustments, test and tweak it as needed. Of course this requires time and dedication, so give yourself LOTS of time to play. Simple and consistent design is generally more elegant and will save your sanity so when in doubt reign it in!
